It's been 9 days now with me serving as the manager of KPAP. It's been interesting so far with some great days and a few rough ones. I'm coming in to the middle of the program so I feel a bit behind. Some days I run around like a chicken with his head cut off (tonight's meal: chicken and chips). I am getting the hang of it and picking things up quickly. I'm trying to figure out the best ways to be efficient, stay in touch with my staff and make sure everyone is happy. I've been able to visit the field frequently and have not felt tied to my desk or computer. In fact I don't really even have a desk, just a big table that several staff use as needed.
Tomorrow, we are entertaining several very high up people who work for World Food Program's main headquarters in Rome. They are essentially to decide the fate of KPAP. Much of the past few weeks have been spent working to prepare a few sites for the visit and to make sure things run smoothly tomorrow. I'm actually excited for the visit and I really want to see it go well. I do firmly believe that the things we are working on are in the best interests of the Karamojong and that the program is positively working to increase food security and reduce the need for and dependency on food aid. Now we just have to convince our donors. Stay tuned....
