Today as I was driving through town I noticed a small herd of livestock. It's an every day occurrence in a largely pastoral community such as Karamoja. I see them all the time. Several sheep or shoats or whatever they are almost walked right into our truck as we drove by heading back to the office from a quick run into town. These near collisions are also a daily occurrence but can bring serious consequences for a driver. Apparently, our fuzzy 4 legged friends had their heads down as they grazed- looking for any sign of food in a barren place that is desperate for the long overdue rains. They weren't paying attention to their surroundings. I can't blame them really, they're just looking for food.
In many ways, I am a shoat. I get so focused on one thing or the other that I forget to look up and look both ways like I was taught in kindergarten. As I do my work today, I am trying to pick my head up and remember my surroundings, my mission, my purpose in being here. I need a watchful Shepard to prevent me from getting smoked by a big white land cruiser .
